Admissions
Admission Policies
The primary concern of New Horizon Elementary School is always the welfare of its students and the admission applicants. New Horizon Elementary School enrolls a diverse student body, welcoming students of all races, creeds, national or ethnic origins, and socio-economic backgrounds. Our main consideration is to ensure that any student admitted is capable of handling a strong academic curriculum successfully and happily. We look for families whose goals for their children are compatible with the school's goals. It is for this reason that we require parents to provide, 30 hours for 1 enrolled child and 35 hours for more than 1 child, parent service hours per school year.
New Horizon Elementary School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
Admission Objectives
New Horizon Elementary School seeks students with the potential to benefit from and to succeed in the school's unique academic and enrichment programs. Those students who benefit most from the school are the intellectually inquisitive, strongly motivated, and those highly committed to the challenges and opportunities the school offers. Admission to New Horizon Elementary School, therefore, involves a highly selective process. The administrative team considers the benefit of both the applicant as an individual as well as the New Horizon community as a whole.
Admission Procedures
The primary goal throughout the admissions process is to provide information about the school while learning as much as possible about the prospective student. During a set time period each year, the school will conduct the admissions procedures for applicants to the elementary school program. The office provides updated information of the current timetable for the admissions process.
Evaluation Criteria
Students are selected from qualified applicants on the following basis:
- Scores on placement test or similar evaluation
- Scholastic achievement and/or transcript of grades
- Fine moral character (citizenship) as demonstrated by previous school records and recommendations
- Personal qualifications as reported by teacher or counselor
- Administrative interview
The administrative team will make the decision after screening the qualified applicants according to the space availability. The administrative team will review all applicants and determine those who will be accepted, those who will be on the waiting list, and those who cannot be accepted. Letters are mailed to applicants advising them of the decision. A registration fee is then due to secure the student's place for the next school year. This fee is non-refundable.
Siblings
New Horizon Elementary School has established a policy, which accords preference to siblings in the admission process when all other significant criteria are judged by the Administrative Team to be equal. All other factors being equal, siblings will be admitted in preference to non-sibling applicants. However, this policy does not guarantee automatic admission.
